There are certain people who embody true selflessness; a desire to somehow make the world a better place. By doing this, they can change lives. Now in her second trimester, first-time surrogate, Erin, is proud to be part of that change.
I have thought about becoming a surrogate for a long time. I have two sisters and although they are not actively trying to get pregnant right now, it is possible that they will have problems conceiving due to past health issues. I have a five-year-old daughter and a three-year-old son. Both of my pregnancies were healthy and easy. So, I’ve always told my sisters I would be happy to be their surrogate if they ever needed my help. One day my sister said to me: “Why wait?”“If you really want to be a surrogate why don’t you look into helping someone now?”
After that conversation, I began researching agencies, reading surrogacy blogs and discussed it with my husband. We decided to move forward with the process. From the moment we made this decision; every step , no matter how small , has been so important. We have embarked on an incredible journey and understand the road to a successful surrogacy takes time and patience. I feel being a parent is the most rewarding job in the world and I am confident that the intended parents, I was matched with, feel the same way. The support from the surrogacy community has been very helpful. I am part of an online group with first-time surrogates. We are “belly buddies” and check in on each other’s progress, offer support and advice. For me, being a surrogate is my opportunity to help a wonderful couple and bring more love into the world.
